The MCU phase 4 is ongoing, and the Eternals release showed us the post-credit scene that hints at the next Marvel big event. So far, thanks to the trailers, we can figure out part of the plot that we will see in the movies; however, if you haven’t read the comics, you might be lost. The Eternals and other characters are very new, and they aren’t as popular as some staple Marvel heroes.
After ‘Endgame’ and what Thanos did to the universe, we know very little about how the world is doing. We saw a little about the new Avenger’s line-up with Sang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’. Still, we don’t know much about what’s happening in the world; this is why you must watch The Eternals, and here we will tell you everything we have learned so far.
What’s the movie about, according to the trailers
Before talking about the cast, the post-credit scene and the overall plot, we must talk a little about the Eternals. The Marvel Universe has huge lore and a vast history that you can get to know in the comics. Long story short, The Eternals are part of that lore as almost gods; they were created by incredible beings called the Celestials, as a very powerful form of ‘humans’. They’ve been living among humans for centuries, fighting against the low-end version of themselves known as the Deviants.
To be fair, the Deviants it’s another form of creation by the Celestials; however, they aren’t as ‘good’ as the Eternals. With that being said, the film is about why they didn’t stop Thanos and what they will do now. The only job of the Eternals in the universe is to coexist with humanity and love humans; however, they shouldn’t intervene in human matters.
Many fans speculated why they let the endgame events happen, and the trailers answered this question. In the film, we will see one possible Avenger, known as Dark Knight, and how he, alongside the Eternals, will ‘fix’ the world after the events of ‘Endgame’.
Who is every Eternal?
The cast for the film — and the director, the Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao — it’s full of superstars. This is why, while we show you how plays who in the film, we will talk a little about their powers and their role.
Gemma Chan plays Sersi in the film; this is one of the most important s Eternal, alongside Richard Madden’s Ikarus. Sersi, in the comics, was at some point part of the Avenger’s line-up and had an on-and-off relationship with Ikarus. That’s a key fact because Sersi is the girlfriend of Dane Whitman, Kit Harington’s character, also the Black Knight.
The rest of the Eternals are Ajak, played by Salma Hayek, the main messenger of the Eternals; Thena, played by Angelina Jolie, the Prime Eternal, or the group leader. The rest of the Eternals are Makkari, play by Laure Ridloff, the speedster of the group; Don Lee as Gilgamesh, the super-strong guy; Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry, capable of creating incredible technology and Kingo, played by Kumail Najiani, the best fighter in the group.
What about the post-credit scene?
After the premiere, one of the post-credit scenes leaked online, showing us some spoilers. We don’t want to ruin the film for you, so we will talk a little about why Thanos and Harry Styles are important without telling anything significant about the plot.
If you didn’t read the comics, Thanos is almost an Eternal; however, he suffers from a disease that made him crazy. Eros, his brother, played by Harry Styles, is the complete opposite of his brother; he appears in the post-credit scene, hinting that his hero persona, ‘Starfox’, will be a crucial character in the future.
