When you are a child and a teenager, you do a lot of stupid things. But who would have thought that these mistakes stemming from ignorance and childish games could haunt you years later and damage your career?
Such is the case with singer-songwriter Billie Eilish after a years-old video went viral. Now, many say she is mocking the Asian community. It only took a little digging into the past to find footage that, a priori, has turned out to be quite compromising for the singer.
Although the date of the video in question is not known, the controversy was bound to rage: was the mockery real, or was it just a video taken out of context? Social media users were quick to label her a racist, but Eilish came to her defence to explain why the clip was making her out to be a bigot.
Billie took advantage of the closeness she has with her fans to clear up the misunderstanding via her Instagram account. “I love you guys, and a lot of you have been asking me to address this. And it’s something I want to address because I’m being labelled as something I’m not,” she explained.
Billie was no more than 14 years old when in that video. Imagine if something similar happened to you. Would you think it was fair?
