As one of the most popular rappers of the decade, Drake’s fans expected a new album soon, and they got it. Released more than two years after Scorpion, Certified Lover Boy is very similar to his past works but has some new twists. This is his sixth studio album, and after 21 songs and nearly 90 minutes of music, fans are thrilled.
Even though there is a debate regarding that the artist always do the same, the album is very enjoyable. At the same time, it’s the album with more collabs than the artist has ever made. Thanks to this, and the original samples he used in many tracks, we can argue that this might be his best album yet.
What can we say about Certified Lover Boy?
Firstly, we need to talk about the samples that Drake use in some of his songs. Maybe the most memorable is the loop he uses from “Michelle”, a song written by the Beatles in the album’s first song. But, unfortunately, not everybody can afford to buy a sample from this band or some of the others he uses. Another example is the sample he uses from Tight Said Fred’s 1991 song “I’m too Sexy”, one of the biggest one-hit-wonders.
Secondly, the album features over 15 artists, many close friends of Drake. Most of them are music royalty or hip hop legends. One of the brilliants songs of the album is Love All, and it features Jay-Z, an icon in the music industry. He also shares mic with Travis Scott, YEBBA, Future, and every hip hop generation.
Finally, we need to add that he plays with the genre a little, and we can see this on “TSU”. Here he samples some yacht rock while singing about a sex worker who wants to make a better life for herself. On the other hand, he also brilliantly samples NSync cover of Christopher Cross’s Sailing.
