After losing this race against Sir Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos finally reaches space today. New Shepard, his spaceship was launched today with a full crew that included Mark Bezos, Wally Funk, a space pioneer, an 18-year-old student, and Jeff Bezos himself. With this, he finally kick-starts the space tourist program he has been planning.
The trip lasted 10 minutes with 10 seconds and was launched at Blue Origin’s facilities in Texas. They travelled in a capsule designed by Blue Origins, Jeff Bezos’s company, specialized in space tourism. The capsule has also the biggest windows flown in space, which offer the best view of the earth you could get.
How was the trip?
During the first 2 minutes, the capsule separated from the rocket, which was described by Bezos as his “Best day ever!”. Every passenger cheered as they experience four minutes of weightlessness. They were able to unstrap themselves from their seats and floated around, enjoying the view.
The capsule reached a maximum altitude of 107km, before starting its descent. As you can expect, the capsule parachuted down for a soft, very normal landing on the dessert. Jeff Bezos told mission control “You have a very happy crew up here, I want you to know” while they were landing.
The origins Jeff Bezos’ trip
Jeff Bezos created Blue Origin, his space company, in 2000, with the sole purpose of this spaceflight. He wanted to be an astronaut at a young age but lastly, he became a rich entrepreneur. This is what granted his wish one way or another. Today he finally accomplished his dream.
He said before the spaceflight “People say they go into space and they come back changed astronauts always talk about that. I can’t wait to see what it’s going to do to me”.
