From time to time, it’s good to bring out our youthful/goofy side. No matter how old you are, Blink-182 has passed through your life at some point; it’s undeniable.
The Californians may no longer have their original line-up, or their strength may have dissipated since the breakup that took place in 2005. Still, it is indisputable that they were one of the great pillars of pop-punk back in the day.
In an exercise of nostalgia, we have tried to classify some of their songs. These are the five best Blink-182 songs, according to Mark Hoppus.
Table of Contents
5. Dammit
His guitar riff may be still stuck in your head, as it even appeared in video games like Guitar Hero. Its funny video goes hand in hand with the theme of the lyrics: Growing up and learning to deal with a breakup. It belongs to “Dude Ranch”, from that time when they shared the spotlight with Green Day’s “Dookie”.
4. Adam’s song
Despite being associated with joy and youth, Blink 182 also have some songs in which drama is the protagonist. “Adam’s Song” was born from a note written by a fan before committing suicide. The letter reached Mark Hoppus, who felt a great sadness when he read it and wanted to pay a tribute in the form of a song.
3. What’s My Age Again
“Enema Of The State” was a catapult to fame for Blink-182. One of their singles was “What’s My Age Again?” in which they reaffirmed their pop-punk character, sounding more shameless than ever. A great truth in their lyrics: “Nobody loves you at 23”.
2. I Miss You
This one’s the song that occupied all Messenger statuses in the early 2000s. The Californians’ beautiful and elegant ballad with visceral lyrics still endures after all these years. However, its arrival marked a complete break from their previous sound. It features several references to the movie Nightmare Before Christmas, directed by Tim Burton. It is also the group’s best-selling single, which after some initial criticism due to its change in style, rose to the top.
1. Feeling This
After playing with the formulas followed by Sum 41, Good Charlotte and more bands of the scene, Blink managed to escape from the banality of happy punk by creating more exciting melodies in one of the band’s last hits of their golden age: ‘Feeling This’. An anthem of love and war for those who didn’t want to face the world.
Blink-182 singer and bassist Mark Hoppus is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, he said Wednesday on his social media accounts.
Hoppus said that he is receiving treatment on Twitter but did not disclose the type of cancer.
“For the past three months, I have been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer,” he wrote.
Sad but true, now one of our heroes from when we were teenagers is fighting for his life. How would you give your support to Mark Hoppus?
