Kevin Guthrie, who participated in Fantastic Beasts, Sunshine on Leith and Netflix’s The English Game, was found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl in Scotland. The renowned Scottish actor was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in 2017. This was his sentence after a four-day trial in Glasgow.
According to the BBC, the artist’s DNA was found in the underwear of a 29-year-old woman, after she reported Guthrie and fellow actor Scott Reid of a sexual assault after taking her to the latter’s apartment.
The mentioned media indicated that the affected woman began to feel bad after having shared a drink with the men in a bar in the city, a fact by which the alluded ones invited her to the property.
While Reid first stated that he left Guthrie inside a room “to make sure she was okay,” but the victim claimed to have recalled that they lifted her blouse and held down her bra.
During the trial, Guthrie showed no emotion as he was locked up and put on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
Sheriff Hughes said: “You had an educational background and worked extremely hard to get a part in acting in acclaimed films. The court must show that women can be protected from domestic sexual offences and those who do should suffer serious consequences. The offence you have been convicted of caused distress and consequences to the young woman involved in this case.
“The other man was urgently getting medical assistance and you were left in the room with her when she was not able to look after herself. You committed this crime in a position of trust. The jury accepted that you committed these heinous crimes and the only appropriate sentence is imprisonment.”
Mr Findlay asked Guthrie to explain why his DNA was found in the victim’s underwear. He said: “I can’t for the life of me explain in any rational sense how that happened.”
Gordon Jackson QC, defending, told the sentencing that Guthrie maintains his innocence and stated that this happening appears to be something out of his character.
The attack occurred between September 30 and October 1 2017. After 4 years the case is going to trial and now we would like to know what you think about it.
