Last Tuesday, France made their Euro 2020 debut with a win over Germany, beating them by the narrowest of margins. The French got the three points after a very tight game against the Germans, leaving as one of the great figures the Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba.
It was Pogba who has been the talk of the town in recent hours for a gesture he made at the post-match press conference. Pogba followed Cristiano Ronaldo’s line, removing a bottle of Heineken beer from the press table, one of the strongest sponsors of the tournament.
In one brief move Cristiano Ronaldo, the star of the Portuguese national football team playing in the same cup, removed two bottles of Coca-Cola from the table as he was about to give a press conference.
“Water!” he said, waving the bottle in his hand. “Not Coca-Cola.”
The development coincided with a drop in Coca-Cola’s share price, which fell from US$56.10 to US$55.22 immediately after the media recorded the Italy Juventus striker’s comment.
What do you think of the gesture by both players? Would you have done the same? Is this a pointless act of rebellion or a protest against the media? Let’s stay tuned to see how this event scales up!
