We can agree that South Park is one of the best shows that are still on the air. After its long run, they thought that their end was near but this isn’t the case. Trey Parker and Matt Stone signed a deal for $900m with Comedy Central network to make more episodes and at least 14 movies. They also agreed to create multiples spinoffs of the show.
South Park has a very rocky story, the show was cancelled twice and came back to life, and it has been criticized a lot. Now, it’s very popular and the latest seasons have been a hit with fans and critics. With this being said, is good news for us – we are fans of the show – that it will keep on running.
What do we know so far about the agreement?
For now, both Matt and Trey should be working on the series until 2027, on six seasons more and the 14 movies. Chris McCarthy an executive of MTV entertainment and Paramount + said “Matt and Trey are world-class creatives. Both brilliantly use their outrageous humour to skewer the absurdities of our culture. We are excited to expand and deepen our long relationship with them to help fuel Paramount+ and Comedy Central”.
Parker and Stone, on the other hand, said that maybe the deal could last longer. “Comedy Central has been our home for 25 years and we’re really happy that they’ve made a commitment to us for the next 75 years”. Even if this isn’t entirely true, we think that we will enjoy this show for decades.
The show debuted in 1997 and became one of the most popular animated shows for adults. Its strong language, the dark, deeply dark humour, and the surreal adventures of the kids made it famous. Nowadays, with the new seasons, its satires are more subtle but just as edgy and bold as before.
