After all this time since its announcement, “The Card Counter”, an epic thriller directed by Paul Schrader finally releases its trailer. Here we are presented to Oscar Isaac, a character that is seeking redemption. Anyways he is also on the path for revenge. With this premise, you can imagine the action and the tension you can expect from the film.
What’s the film about?
Mostly the movie centers on an ex-military interrogator that is now a gambler named William Tell. Haunted by everything he’s done, he will try to guide a young, vulnerable man into the right path. However, both seek retribution from a common enemy. In other words, revenge is never well served for anybody.
“It doesn’t matter to me if you did something bad in your past,” says the female protagonist to Isaac in the trailer. In other words, the movie will show us some moral dilemmas and conflicts. Finally, we can expect that we will ultimately watch a movie about past trauma and what we can overcome.
The cast of this movie is amazing; for now, the movie is co-starred by Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe. In other words, we can expect some exceptional acting. This Focus Feature film will debut on September 10, after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
What else do we know about the director?
If you don’t know Schrader’s work, you probably ignore that this is a follow-up to his already Oscar-nominated film. “First Reformed”, his previous film was a dark drama starring Ethan Hawke, that centers on a Protestant minister. Here we can see this character struggling with his faith, his own will, and more moral dilemmas, which is a staple of the director.
