Sherlock
This was the role that started his stardom. He became famous because of this show and he was the key to its success. In an interview, he said that he thought that he wouldn’t fit the role as a sexy detective, but guess what? He did. The show received critical acclaim and the female viewers were crazy about him.
Overall, the show it’s great, the writers did an amazing job and created amazing plots and incredible cliffhangers. Benedict Cumberbatch did one of the greatest Sherlock we ever saw on TV and the rest of the cast was on point too.
Smaug
This role wasn’t easy because it heavily depended on motion capture. Even though that handicap, he portrayed one of the best antagonists of the whole saga. The Hobbit is a children’s fantasy novel, but its characters, like Bilbo Boson, are iconic. Thanks to his performance, Smaug was the villain a lot of Tolkien fans were expecting.
Most of this role depended on his voice with which, of course, he delivers. The dragon causes fear and it’s surprisingly intimidating, which is impressive. A fun fact is that, in an interview, he said that his performance was inspired by the way his father used to read Smaug lines.
Doctor Stephen Strange
Being one of the most unique movies that Marvel has delivered yet, it’s an Iconic one for many reasons. We must say that thanks to his performance this is one of the best movies in the MCU too. The visuals and the way Benedict gave life to the character have made this the biggest MCU single-character origin story.
At this point, we must agree that this is one of the best castings ever made for a superhero film, besides Thor. He already was famous before this role and he has that mysterious, magician vibe. After this role, we were sure that Benedict Cumberbatch was born to be Dr Strange.
Alan Turing
The imitation game is a brilliant film about one of the greatest minds in the history of the world. Also, thanks to this movie Benedict also was nominated for an Oscar because his performance was out of this world. If you haven’t watched it, you must do it right now, or soon at least, because this film is amazing.
Here he plays another eccentric, brilliant mind – Pretty close to a lot of his performances. Alan Turing was an important genius during World War II, who helped to end the war. In the film, he must break the code for the Nazi’s encrypted messages, which happened in real life.
William Ford
12 Yeas A Slave was huge and landed in nine Oscar nominations. Sadly, Benedict didn’t feature any but he did deliver a great performance that you will remember if you watch the film. Here, he plays Ford, a plantation owner and the first one to purchase Solomon Northup, the lead character.
During his role, Benedict is a kind man but he ended up selling his slave, being unable to really help him.
