You may be coming here with a question on a kind of ritual practice between friends you heard some time ago. But what does it mean and why it’s popular is actually kind of incredible for many reasons. First, this is an indigenous drink, used for medical purposes or in special moments to reach a higher state.
It is a prevalent practice in some south American indigenous communities to drink Ayahuasca regularly. It gained huge fame since its usage seemed important; after all, it had been used centuries ago until today. What seemed like a really easy-to-cook drug became really famous for its strength when consuming it.
How is it made
As you could guess by the title, the Ayahuasca drug comes from an Amazonian plant with the same name. So the Ayahuasca is a jungle liana harvested only to make this ancient beverage and nothing else. In some places, another ingredient is also added to the mix. For example, a bush called Chacruna enhances the effect.
To achieve the Ayahuasca beverage, these two plants must be cooked together until boiled and reduced. When cooked, it will be ready to drink, but be aware that this plant’s effect may last hours or even days. Many will assure that this plant or its consumption has healing powers, not only for your spirit but also for your body.
So, what is it for?
Now that we know how it is made, the big question is still why do people want to be in its effect so bad. Not only you can get this plant in the south American jungles, but you can also find it in the United States and Europe. This plant’s effect is so demanded that it becomes easier to find it outside of the jungle.
We can say that this plant’s effect will alter your perception and cognition, therefore taking you on a spiritual trip. The main impact will be opening your consciousness to the kind of traumatic experiences that you usually block. Thus, allowing you to heal and experience the feelings you may have forgotten or buried as time passed.
This is why it’s very important to be careful if you are thinking of consuming it; this is not a recreational drug. Your life experiences might be deep and incredibly traumatic, and if you are not ready, we wouldn’t recommend it. But, overall, for the people who have used it, the Ayahuasca helped them reconnect with those memories. For some, healing old scars is what happens – and this is why they defend it so strongly – but it’s not the same for everybody.
