Augmented reality is a thing now, and many benefits are surrounding this technology. You might only know how it works because Pokémon Go uses it, and many modern games now benefit from it. However, there are more to it than just fun and games, and smart glasses could be a reality soon.
There are several rumours about this topic, mostly about how companies expect to replace smartphones in the next decade. Many companies believe that users are tired of smartphones, even though almost everybody owns one. So, according to those rumours, some big companies are working on smart glasses and augmented reality as an alternative to smartphones.
Will this technology replace smartphones soon?
The only answer to this question is that we don’t know because developing this kind of thing isn’t easy. With this, we are trying to say that augmented reality will allow you to see most of the real world. In theory, this technology will generate computer-like pop-ups around you. Yes, that might sound a little like SciFi, but it might be a reality soon.
Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and many more companies are working on this. Right now, Apple expects to revolutionize AR and be the first company to develop smart glasses. As a company, they have been working on a prototype for years now, and they expect to release the first functional headset in 2022, which could cost almost $3000.
However, we aren’t entirely sure about this because Google released a pair of glasses that tried to simulate this in 2013. The Google Glass was the first introduction of AR on daily life basis, but we weren’t as ready for it as we are now. In other words, since 2013 – and maybe even before – companies have been trying to use this technology and combine it with our daily basis. With this being said, maybe soon, we won’t need smartphones anymore.
